8th Oberstdorfer Fotogipfel, September 2020
Picture Instruments Tool supports K2 Studio for Guinness World Record
The traditional Oberstdorf ski jump is known for records, but this time the focus is not on skiing but on an extraordinary photo print. A team around Canon, Ilford and Oberstdorfer Fotogipfel succeeded in producing a 109.04 meter (357,74 ft) long digital photo print from the famous Schattenbergschanze with the imagePROGRAF PRO-6100 large format photo printer and thus setting the world record. The spectacular action took place as part of the 8th Oberstdorfer Fotogipfel and was definitely the highlight of the event. The 41 pictures, which were printed in large format, were sold at an auction. The entire proceeds will be donated to the non-profit association Schaut Hin e.V., which works in the field of child and victim support.
Print optimization under time pressure
Old black and white analog scans of winter sports enthusiasts and alpinists from the 20s and 30s made it into the selection for the 109.04 meter (357,74 ft) long photo print. In addition expressive portraits and impressive landscape panoramas were selected for printing. Jochen Kohl from the K2 Studio took on the challenge of creating and optimizing the print files for the 41 selected images as part of the team. So that Jochen makes the right print settings for brilliant results even under enormous time pressure, we have packed his concentrated expert knowledge into a plugin for Photoshop. After the tool has so impressively demonstrated its performance, we have decided to officially release the plugin very soon. This tool will guide you through the process of print preparation in Photoshop - even without in-depth knowledge. In the future, questions about how to optimally sharpen your image for printing or which rendering intent should be used for printing will be a thing of the past.
